Quick actions from a truck driver kept a vegetation fire near Interstate 43 from getting out of hand.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department was called on Thursday (May 8th) just after 4:00 p.m. on numerous reports of a fire on the side of the road near Atkinson Drive and Hurlbut Street on the city’s west side.
Multiple callers reported heavy smoke near I-43 as fire crews were en route to the scene.
A prompt response by a Peters Concrete Company driver helped mitigate the fire’s spread as he sprayed water on the flames before the Fire Department’s arrival. Once on scene, firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining flames and prevented any further damage.
After the incident, Green Bay FD reminded the public that fire danger levels are up across the state and are asking Wisconsinites to exercise caution.
This includes avoiding burning yard debris, using care while grilling, and properly disposing of smoking materials to avoid additional incidents like this one.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department has thanked the Peters Concrete Company Driver, the Green Bay Police Department, and Brown County Public Safety Communications for their assistance during the incident.
