There is a bit of confusion regarding the future of the ADRC of the Lakeshore’s Home Delivered Meals program.
A WOMT Radio listener claimed the program was being discontinued due to funding shortfalls, but Wendy Hutterer, the Director of the local ADRC, said that is not the case.
She explained on The Jim and Rick Show Friday morning that the confusion stems from people not knowing the difference between Meals on Wheels and Home Delivered Meals.
“I will not pretend to know much of what’s going on the Meals on Wheels side, but Meals on Wheels is more of a caterer,” she clarified. “Home Delivered Meals is something that is a service through the ADRCs in Wisconsin.”
While the Home Delivered Meals program does receive federal and state money, Hutterer noted that they also get funding from other sources.
“We also receive local tax levy from both counties,” she revealed. “We also depend on the generous contributions from some of our members and community members and from volunteer work that is done to help us support our program and keep us serving at the level that we are.”
The ADRC of the Lakeshore delivers these meals to around 400 to 500 people in Manitowoc and Kewaunee Counties, which equates to 70,000 to 80,000 meals delivered.
Anyone who would like to donate to the Home Delivered Meals program is encouraged to contact the ADRC of the Lakeshore at (877) 416-7083.
