Two schools in Manitowoc County were locked down after reports of an armed individual in the area.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area surrounding Cleveland Elementary School yesterday (May 8th) at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Calls received reported an armed person in the area and, out of “an abundance of caution,” Cleveland Elementary and nearby Lakeshore College were placed on a temporary lockdown.
Following a thorough investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, no armed individual was located, and the threat was determined to be unsubstantiated.
After the incident, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, “We take all reports seriously and appreciate the cooperation of school officials, parents, and community members. The safety of our schools remains a top priority.”
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office has thanked the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Kiel Police Department, and Manitowoc Fire Department for their assistance during the investigation.
