A Manitowoc man charged after injuring a police officer is now seeking a public defender.
50-year-old Mario Mora was in court this week for his initial appearance after Judge Jerilyn Dietz adjourned two previous such hearings.
At his initial appearance, he waived the reading of the criminal complaint and demanded a preliminary hearing.
Additionally, Mora qualifies for the representation of a public defender, however, counsel has yet to be appointed.
The 50-year-old has been charged with Resisting an Officer Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, Battery or Threatening a Law Enforcement Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and five counts of misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
Mora was arrested on April 17th after the Manitowoc Police Department was dispatched to the area of South 18th Street and Western Avenue due to an altercation between him and his partner.
After being located by police, Mora became combative with an officer in the middle of the street, injuring them in the process.
He was then subdued by being tased and placed in custody.
Mora returns to court in Manitowoc County for his preliminary hearing on May 22nd.
