A late-game rally for the Manitowoc Lincoln baseball team powered them to their 14th win of the season.
The Shipbuilders battled on their home diamond against Green Bay Southwest and two home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning earned them the win 3-1.
This was a pitching dual that saw Green Bay Southwest get on the board first in the top of the 2nd inning thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Jace Proski.
The game would remain 1-0 in Southwest’s favor until the 6th when the Ships’ Vance Shroeder would step to the plate and drive a solo shot to tie the ball game.
Cade Grapentine would then step up just a few batters later with one on to blast a go-ahead, 2-run homer over the right field fence.
The two late deep shots earned the win for Ships pitcher Seth Gibeault, who went six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run, walking two, and fanning eight.
Bennett Johnson would come on in the bottom of the 7th to close, earning the save.
Grapentine led the way for Lincoln with two hits, 2 RBI, and one run scored.
With the win, Manitowoc Lincoln improves to 14-1 on the season, 10-1, and 1st place in the FRCC.
They have a quick turnaround as the will defend their home diamond once again today (April 9th) in a nonconference matchup against the Plymouth Panthers.
