The former Appleton teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student has appeared in court.
43-year-old Rebecca Ryan, a former teacher at Appleton West High School, made her preliminary appearance in an Outagamie County courtroom on Tuesday (May 6th) after being charged with three felony counts of Sexual Assault of a Student by School Staff.
Ryan’s previous appearance in court last week saw her bond set at $50,000 cash.
However, at Tuesday’s hearing, Ryan and her legal counsel made a motion to modify the terms of that bond, which will be discussed on May 19th at a bail hearing.
Ryan was arrested by the Appleton Police Department after an investigation into the 43-year-old determined that she engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student in 2017 and 2018.
Police also noted that she “was not employed as a teacher at the time of her arrest and the investigation remains ongoing.”
Ryan will next be in court for her bail hearing; however, an arraignment has also been scheduled for July 2nd.
