The Sheboygan County Food Bank has officially launched one of its most essential annual programs.
The Fund Food for Thought for Kids campaign has opened and is dedicated to supporting children facing hunger within the community.
The goal for this year’s campaign is to raise enough money to ensure 650 local students have food to eat every weekend during the 2025-2026 school year.
Liz Kroll, the Sheboygan County Food Bank’s Senior Director of Programs and Community Impact, recently explained how the program works in a YouTube video.
“Food for Thought for Kids is a program that we have here at the Food Bank, at the end of the week, each child gets a bag to bring home and is able to eat on the weekends.” She continued to say, “The Impact for Food for Thought for Kids is really exciting. When we talk to teachers, they say they are ready to learn.”
Anjenette Pond, the Food Banks Co-Lead Volunteer, has also explained why this program is so important to her and the kids that it impacts.
She said emotionally, “These are kids that can’t help themselves, I mean, they can’t solve a food problem when they are 6, 7. Why do we do this? Why is this important? Because these kids are excited to bring home a bag with a milk, and a peanut butter, and an apple, and I want to be part of that.”
Through the Food for Thought program, every $6.25 donated feeds one child for one weekend, while just over $53 donated will feed one child for an entire quarter.
However, thanks to a significant commitment by the Black Spring Foundation, all donations made to the Food for Thought program will be matched up to $100,000, doubling the efforts of every person who wants to help out.
Last year, 150 students benefited from this program, and after its success, the food bank is looking to up that number to 650.
