A nonprofit in Sheboygan is seeking volunteers to help people in times of critical need.
Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County is looking for caring and dedicated volunteers to answer its 24/7 crisis helpline.
Those who volunteer for this role will be trained to listen with empathy to help assess the needs of a caller.
They will also offer immediate support to those in need of safety, resources, and hope while working alongside the Safe Harbor crisis team to connect survivors with the proper support systems.
The time and compassion of a volunteer on the 24/7 crisis hotline can be a lifeline for someone experiencing a traumatic incident.
Safe Harbor has highlighted this volunteering opportunity this month, as May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
According to their data, one in five adults experience mental illness each year, while 19 percent of adults experience anxiety disorder.
With this in mind, Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County is asking the public to check in on friends and loved ones, explore ways to care for your own mental wellness, and to speak up to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health.
