One person required medical treatment after a chemical leak in the Village of Allouez.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department and the Hazardous Materials Response Team (HAZMAT) were called to a potential chemical leak at the Allouez water treatment facility on Monday (May 5th) just before 11:00 a.m.
Upon their arrival, fire and HAZMAT crews were notified that a 100-pound chlorine cylinder had developed a leak, however, the leak was contained to a single room, posing little threat to surrounding residents.
Two HAZMAT team members equipped with non-encapsulated Level A suits were deployed into the facility and successfully contained the chlorine leak within one minute of entry.
During the incident, one worker at the water treatment facility was exposed to the harmful chemical and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
After containing the leak, crews performed air monitoring to ensure the safety of residents and confirmed that the leak did not impact the safety of the water supply in the area.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department and HAZMAT teams were assisted in their response by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Brown County Public Safety Communications.
