The Manitowoc Lincoln baseball team stayed hot as they took down FRCC rivals Notre Dame of Green Bay.
A strong performance from Vance Schroeder powered the Ships past the Tritons 8-5 in Green Bay yesterday (May 5th).
Schroeder got to work early, hitting a three-run homer in the top of the opening frame, bringing in Benson Dickrell and Brayden Steinbecker.
A first-inning Cade Grapentine single would drive in another run, pushing the Ships’ lead to 4-0 after one.
Lincoln would get on the board again in the third inning as Zach Bradl singled down the left field line, Nick Braun laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Benson Dickrell grounded out, each scoring one run making it a 7-0 ball game.
Notre Dame would make it 7-1 in the 4th before the Ships added an insurance run in the top of the 6th.
However, the Tritons continued to fight in the bottom of the 6th, adding four runs themselves, but it would not be enough as the Ships would go on to win by a score of 8-5 with Bennett Johnson taking the mound in the bottom of the 7th to collect the save.
Steinbecker earned the win for Lincoln, giving up five hits and five runs (two earned) over six innings of work while striking out eight batters.
Schroeder would end the day a triple shy of the cycle, and Dickrell, Braun, and Grapentine would finish the day with two hits apiece.
The victory moves the Ships to 13-1 on the season, 9-1 in the FRCC. Manitowoc Lincoln will try to make it 14 wins on the season on Thursday when they take on Green Bay Southwest at home at Bruce Steinbecker Field.
