A lead service lateral project in Two Rivers is temporarily paused after questions from the city council.
The council was going to approve a bid for $1.8 million for the lead lateral replacement in over 200 areas of the city.
However, City Engineer Matt Heckenlible says that Essential Sewer and Water has been questioned after some poor work accusations.
SeehaferNews.com has previously reported that Sheboygan’s Board of Waterworks Commissioners decided to end a contract with the company in December last year because of “failure to provide proper documentation, non-responsive proposals, and extended completion times” for a lead service lateral project.
However, Heckenlaible says the city is still using Essential Sewer and Water for sanitary and storm sewer work. But the company was also accused of not flushing water out of the pipes after work was done.
Due to issues brought up last night, the Two Rivers City Council voted 8-1 to table the bid approval for two weeks to get answers to questions they have.
According to city documents, the bid is lower than the original estimated cost of about $2.3 million.
The project is also intended to be funded in part through the Wisconsin DNR Safe Drinking Water Loan Program and Clean Water Fund.
