A local watershed group wants help cleaning up the beaches in the Clipper City.
The Friends of Manitowoc Rivers Watershed will host a beach cleanup this Saturday (May 10th) from 9:00 am to 12:00 p.m. as part of the Alliance for the Great Lakes Adopt-a-Beach Program.
Adopt-a-Beach volunteers collect hundreds of thousands of pieces of litter – and tens of thousands of pounds of litter – from Great Lakes shorelines.
86% of litter collected is made of plastic, which never goes away.
The cleanups will take place at Silver Creek Park Beach, University Beach, Lakefront Beach, YMCA Beach, and Lighthouse Park Beach.
The Friends of Manitowoc River Watershed recommends dressing in layers because it can be cold and windy in the spring.
All supplies for picking up litter will be provided, but volunteers can bring their own work gloves if they choose.
Those who’d like to volunteer can sign up with Kim by texting her at 920-242-1993.
