
On Saturday, the Manitowoc County Mariners begin their 15th year of competition when they play host to the Wisconsin Ravens in a Northern Lights Football League contest at Rubick Fidel in Manitowoc.
Owner Marcos Alfaro replaces Brent Luebke as head coach. The team’s roster features a good mix of veterans and youth.
Defensive lineman Dylan Waupoose is back for his 13th year, and Ben Darnell begins his 11th year on the offensive line.
Marcos Alfaro Junior is back for a tenth year at quarterback, and wide receivers Charles Cowart and Stephen Kimball, Tight End John Kimball, and defensive back Victor Williams also bring decades’ worth of experience to the team.
The Mariners have also brought in 11 rookies and 19 first-year players to the roster.
The Ravens, based in Winneconne, and the Mariners met three times last season.
The Mariners won the two regular-season matchups, and the Ravens got revenge by eliminating the Mariners in the opening round of the playoffs.
