The Manitowoc Public School Board’s newest members are ready to help move the district forward.
David Bowman, Ann Holsen, and Mary Lofy Blahnik were officially sworn in last night during an organization meeting.
Bowman tells Seehafernews.com that he has always been passionate about teaching and learning.
He says he wants to help the district and make it what it should be.
“We had people 100 years ago that had bold vision for what they thought Manitowoc education should be to the lakeshore,” he explained. “And I think that we’re in a process where we have that opportunity to reignite the fire of what education means.”
Holsen comes from a line of educators, some of whom showed up to congratulate her during the meeting.
She says she ran to give back to those who helped raise her.
“I know we have a lot to offer in this community, and we’d like to attract more families, more students,” she said. “There’s a good community base here, and we just have a very good group of people who want to help our students thrive.”
Blahnik had previously worked in education for 33 years and said she also wanted to give back.
She says she’s excited about the new board.
She told Seehafernews.com, “I think this new board is going to be great at building consensus, working together and getting things done.”
The MPSD board also has a new president.
“Biff” Hansen will take over the role after a unanimous vote. Keith Shaw will serve as vice president, while Kerry Trask will be the secretary and treasurer.
The board members will meet in committees starting this week before their first regular board meeting takes place in May.
