Manitowoc Public Utilities has given more information about a second power outage from last night (April 29th) into early this morning (April 30th).
MPU Communications Manager Jenny Nelson explains that 4,500 customers were affected by the outage, which started after a raccoon got into a substation, causing the transmission breakers to open.
Electric Distribution staff worked with the American Transmission Company to be able to close the breakers and resolve the outage.
However, the electric distribution system interruption also caused one of MPU’s power plant boilers to go offline, resulting in a release of steam from the plant as designed.
The unit was eventually placed back online by staff.
Nelson finishes by saying, “We strive to provide reliable service and are proud to be your public power utility. We appreciate our customers’ patience while we worked safely through restoration.”
