A stalwart Shipbuilder who spent the first part of his college career at Central Michigan University has announced he’s “coming home” to play for the Badgers.
Davis Heinzen, a redshirt senior who excelled as a tight end during his high school career in Manitowoc, will be playing football for the Wisconsin Badgers this fall.
Heinzen was heavily recruited coming out of high school and chose to go to Central Michigan to bulk up and play offensive line for the Chippewas.
He started at left tackle in his first years in Mount Pleasant before moving to left guard last season.
Head Coach Luke Fickell says that Heinzen’s positional versatility and experience should help him find a starting spot on the line and provide much-needed depth to a group that has been depleted by injury, most notably to left tackle Kevin Haywood.
He’s lost for the upcoming season after tearing his ACL during spring practice. In a social media post, Heinzen says on transferring to UW, “Thank you, CMU (Central Michigan University), for helping shape me into the person and player I am today. I’m grateful for everyone who’s been a part of the journey.”
He continues, “I’m excited to take the next step and coming back to my home state to continue the offensive line tradition at The University of Wisconsin.”
The Badgers open their season on August 28th at home against Miami of Ohio.
