Two shoplifters wanted in numerous counties have been arrested in the City of Fond du Lac.
The Fond du Lac Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle connected to a retail theft in Winnebago County on Sunday (April 27th) just after 2:30 p.m.
The vehicle was identified by Flock license plate recognition cameras near the intersection of West Johnson Street and North Pioneer Road.
The vehicle was then located exiting Kohl’s parking lot, and officers and a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, however, the vehicle failed to stop.
A short pursuit followed at the speed of surrounding traffic before the driver pulled over near South Military Road.
Both the driver, a 40-year-old Madison woman, and the passenger, a 26-year-old woman also from Madison, were arrested without incident.
After the arrests, police were able to confirm that the two entered the Kohl’s in Fond du Lac, filled a store-branded bag with $1,725 worth of merchandise, and exited the store without paying.
Both of the Madison women were charged with felony Retail Theft, while the 40-year-old is also facing additional charges related to the brief pursuit.
Following the arrests, Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein stated, “This incident highlights the effectiveness of technology like Flock license plate recognition systems in supporting real-time policing and inter-agency collaboration.”
