A local health organization is highlighting the importance of establishing a primary care provider for older men.
Emplify Health by Bellin cited a report by the National Library of Medicine, which states that men 45 to 64 years old with a primary care provider are 35 percent more likely to manage their chronic diseases and can decrease their emergency room visits by 20 percent.
However, stigma and societal factors may stop men from seeking preventative care or timely care.
Dr. Matthew Andreoli, a Family Medicine Physician with Emplify Health by Bellin said while they understand there is still a notion for men to have a “push through the pain” mentality, “regularly meeting with your primary care provider can ensure you stay healthy and on top of your healthcare risks.”
