A hood suppression system was to thank for major damage being avoided during a fire in Fond du Lac.
The City of Fond du Lac Fire Rescue was called just after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday (April 23rd) to the 400 block of North Peters Avenue on a report of a stove fire.
When crews arrived on scene at the multi-tenant complex, they learned that there was no longer an active fire.
Prior to their arrival, the flames were extinguished thanks to two FireStop Rangehood Fire Suppressors.
These devices detect fires and deploy an extinguishing agent upon detection and are often used in kitchens for this exact kind of situation.
With the help of the fire suppressors, the damage was contained to the stovetop and cabinets above.
However, the unit had no working smoke detectors, and damage would have been significant without the fire suppressors.
Fire crews then double-checked for any extensions and worked to clear the apartment of smoke.
The City of Fond du Lac Fire rescue team said that this incident is a perfect example of why you should never leave anything cooking unattended.
