An Appleton man has been convicted after being impaired behind the wheel during a fatal car accident.
42-year-old Stephen Reetz was in an Outagamie County courtroom for a plea hearing on Tuesday (April 22nd) as he faced charges of Homicide by Vehicle while Using a Controlled Substance and Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle.
At his hearing, Reetz was found guilty of the second charge due to a no contest plea, while the Homicide by Vehicle while Using a Controlled Substance charge was dismissed.
FOX11 reports that on June 7th, 2023, Reetz was traveling west on Greiner Road in the Town of Freedom when he failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign before making a left turn.
A motorcycle traveling north on Highway E then struck Reetz’s vehicle, with the impact of the collision killing the driver, an unnamed 52-year-old Seymour man.
A blood test following the fatal crash confirmed that Reetz tested positive for THC.
Reetz will return to court for a sentencing hearing on June 2nd.
