The sudden passing of Pope Francis has left many in mourning, including Congressman Glenn Grothman.
The 6th District Congressman issued a statement to SeehaferNews.com, where he said, “I am saddened by the passing of Pope Francis, the first Pope from the Americas. It is heartwarming to see such grieving over an important Christian leader. Our prayers are with the Cardinals as they choose a new leader of the largest Christian denomination in the world. For all who are mourning, my heart goes out to you. Let us honor his legacy by reaffirming our commitment to Christ. May Pope Francis rest in peace.”
Pope Francis succumbed to a cerebral stroke after just over 12 years in the position.
Born Jose Mario Bergolio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pope Francis was ordained by the Archbishop of Cordoba, Ramon Jose Catellano, in 1969, after surviving a life-threatening bout with pneumonia.
Prior to being named Pope, Francis served as the President of the Argentine Episcopal Conference.
He was 88 at the time of his death, and his funeral has been scheduled for Saturday in St. Peter’s Square.
