The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is warning attendees of the potential for scams during this week’s NFL Draft.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to convene in Green Bay over the next few days for the draft, including scammers targeting transportation.
With many legitimate transportation options for those in attendance, such as shuttles, buses, and rideshares, this wide variety of options may be seen as an opportunity for scammers.
The DATCP warns that scammers will likely try to prey on those enjoying the draft by selling fake transit tickets, passes, and reservations.
For those driving their own vehicle to the draft, be aware of scams related to parking payments.
Many locations to park will utilize an online payment system featuring a QR code to scan with a mobile device.
Scammers can place fake QR codes over the real ones that will take victims to a seemingly real payment portal.
However, if a consumer uses it, it will send money and banking information to scammers.
The DATCP is reminding draft goers that Green Bay Metro will offer free bus routes from Downtown to the draft event grounds, and the Brown County Tavern League will also provide free shuttles from participating locations.
Scams can be avoided by getting information from the proper outlets related to transportation and parking services, which can be found by visiting GreenBay.com/Draft25.
