A man from Wisconsin is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting a police K9 during a foot chase in Rockford.
Authorities say Vernon Frills fled from a traffic stop on East State Street Saturday and opened fire as officers and a K9 unit pursued him.
The K9 was struck twice, suffering injuries to its shoulder and paw.
The dog was rushed to an emergency vet and is expected to make a full recovery.
Frills was taken into custody and is now facing several charges, including attempted murder.
