Two rest areas on Interstate 43 in Manitowoc County are set to close for an extended period of time.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has announced that the two rest stops located on I-43 in the Town of Cooperstown between Denmark and Maribel will close on April 28th.
As we previously reported, last year Manitowoc County was awarded millions to improve public safety and make infrastructure improvements along I-43.
The $20.4 million project will include the complete removal and construction of new rest area buildings, parking lot improvements, reconstruction of the on and off ramps to the rest stops, and much more to improve the decades old facilities.
Included in the parking lot improvements will be the addition of 71 new parking spots for semi-trucks.
As a result of the construction project, the rest areas will be closed to all vehicles throughout its duration.
Currently, the DOT estimates the project should be completed in June of next year.
