Manitowoc’s representative in Madison is looking to reintroduce legislation to allow grants for “mental health clubhouses.”
A clubhouse, according to the Wisconsin State Legislature, is “a nonresidential rehabilitation program that provides support and services to individuals who have or are awaiting diagnosis for a mental illness but does not directly provide treatment or medical care for mental illnesses.”
25th District Assemblyman Paul Tittl explained on the WCUB Breakfast Club that under his legislation, groups like Painting Pathways would be able to apply to get a matching grant if they raise $50,000 a year.
The Assemblyman explained that the grant would “help them operate their programs. Help them help those who have mental illness. Help them get connected. Help them not miss appointments.”
Tittl says groups with the clubhouse model usually raise more than $50,000, so it should be a burden on them.
The Manitowoc Republican also says Painting Pathways is one of only eight mental health clubhouses in the state.
He introduced a similar bill in 2023 but failed to pass in a Senate Joint Resolution.
