A Milwaukee police officer is facing criminal charges after firing his weapon near a school while off duty.
Officer Vashaun Young has been charged with endangering safety by using a firearm in a school zone.
Prosecutors say he discharged his gun into nearby homes while driving near 23rd and Burleigh streets without aiming or confirming where the shots were going.
The Northwest Opportunities Vocational Academy is located less than 1,000 feet from where the shots were fired.
If convicted, Young could face up to 17 years in prison.
