A public health alert has been issued for pork products shipped nationwide.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that the alert is for pork carnitas shipped to Aldi supermarkets nationwide due to the possibility that they may contain pieces of metal.
A recall was not issued, however, as the products are no longer available for purchase, but may be in customers’ fridges or freezers.
The products in question are labeled as “Pork carnitas seasoned and seared with juices slow cooked with citrus” and will have use-by dates of 6/30/2025 or 7/1/2025.
The problem was discovered during a routine FSIS check that revealed a piece of equipment was damaged and resulted in the possibility of metal fragments in the carnitas.
Anyone in possession of the pork carnitas is urged not to consume them but rather throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
This public health alert includes pork carnitas sold at both the Manitowoc and Sheboygan Aldi supermarkets.
