A decade after being told to reconstruct the Mill Pond Dam, Plymouth has laid out a timeline for the project.
In 2015 the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources notified the city that the spillway of the Mill Pond Dam had to be brought into compliance with state regulations by this year.
In the ten years since, careful evaluation was done while city officials sought out funding to pay for the large undertaking of reconstructing the dam.
This included funding through the DNR’s Municipal Dam Grant Program and $1 million in funds from the State of Wisconsin.
The DNR also awarded an additional $640,000 to fund the project last year.
With funding secured, Plymouth and Ayres Associates have entered the design and permitting period of the project, which they believe will be completed by November.
After designs are finished, bids will be sought for the project,t and a construction contract will be signed.
The city then plans to drain Mill Pond for construction in April of next year, before the construction period begins sometime in June 2026.
If all goes to plan, construction is expected to be completed by December of next year, and the pond will be refilled.
Plymouth hopes the reconstruction project will ensure a sustainable future for Mill Pond.
