The Manitowoc County Health Department is urging families to get up-to-date on their child’s vaccines.
The department mentions measles, mumps, and rubella or MMR vaccinations, especially before traveling.
Nurse Manager Heather Feest tells SeehaferNews.com that measles is one of the most contagious diseases in the world and spreads through coughing and sneezing.
A rash typically appears a few days later, starting on the head and spreading through the rest of the body.
The health department says the measles vaccine is highly effective and is given in two doses in children between 12-15 months and 4-6 years.
Health Department Director Korina Aghmar explains that MMR vaccines are offered through the Vaccines for Children and Vaccines for Adults programs through appointment only.
Family immunization records can also be found online at dhfswir.org. Measles cases have been on the rise in the US.
Two have died after an outbreak in western Texas this year.
