Manitowoc’s utilities company is doing its part to become more eco-friendly.
The Manitowoc Public Utilities (MPU) Commission passed a resolution on Monday (April 14th) that approves the formation of Horizon Blends Pellets, LLC.
MPU has stated that Horizon Blends Pellets is the next step in its Manitowoc Refuel Renewable Project that aims to make the change from fossil fuel-powered plants to be 100 percent powered by Wisconsin-recognized renewable fuel pellets.
On the passing of the resolution, MPU Communications Manager Jennie Nelson said, “The creation of this company will propel us towards fuel certainty; securing the necessary amount of fuel pellets long-term for both power plant boilers to run at maximum output.”
The formation of this new company comes as fuel prices are becoming increasingly uncertain.
MPU has said they will share future project milestones in the future as they pertain to the Manitowoc Refuel Renewable Project and Horizon Blends Pellets.
