Sheboygan County officials are hoping to increase public access at one of the county’s most-used parks.
Sheboygan County Planning and Conservation has shared plans for significant upgrades at Broughton Marsh Park intended to bring non-boaters or kayakers to the space.
One major project set to get underway soon is the construction of a wetland boardwalk that will connect park facilities to previously inaccessible portions of the Marsh.
After receiving a grant to fund the planning process, extensive public input was gathered to shape those plans.
This included stakeholders and comments from over 1,000 middle school students attending classes at the Kohler Center for Marsh Education.
In addition to bringing more people to the park, Sheboygan County Planning and Conservation believes the addition of the boardwalk will also promote exploration and education about the various ecosystems at the marsh.
