The City of Manitowoc will be awarded a Tree City USA Award for the 42nd year.
It’s part of the Forestry Division’s celebration of Arbor Day, which takes place this Thursday (April 17th) at Madison Elementary School at 1:30 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the event, featuring Mayor Justin Nickels reading the Arbor Day Proclamation and The Lorax.
He’ll also take a couple of questions from the 4th-grade students in attendance.
A ceremonial planting of trees donated by the Izaak Walton League will follow at Lakeview Park on Huron Street.
The Tree City USA award will be presented by a member of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Manitowoc will also be given its 13th consecutive Growth Award for demonstrating higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year.
Questions can be directed to the city’s Forestry Division at 920-686-3580.
