A Fond du Lac man charged in the death of a motorcyclist will be getting a competency exam.
67-year-old Mark Snider was present in court yesterday (April 10th) for his preliminary hearing after he was charged with Second-Degree Reckless Homicide and First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
WBAY reports that at that hearing Snider’s attorney William Mark requested a competency exam for his client as he felt he was unable to fully understand the judicial proceedings.
The courts granted the exam, which will now be completed in the next 30 days.
The 67-year-old was arrested on March 28th for his role in a crash that killed 26-year-old Elijah Sowin.
Investigations that followed led the Fond du Lac Police Department to believe that this crash in the 600 block of South Main Street was not accidental but rather a deliberate and dangerous act that led directly to Sowin’s death.
It is believed that Snider intentionally swerved into the path of Sowin’s motorcycle, causing him to crash into the driver’s side of the vehicle and sustain significant injuries that he would later succumb to after being transported to a local hospital.
Snider will return to court for a competency hearing at an undetermined date following the completion of the competency exam.
