
A traffic stop for a defective light turned into a chase for Manitowoc Police.
An officer was on patrol in the 900 block of Washington Street just after 2:00 this morning (April 10th), when they noticed a vehicle with a defective taillight.
The officer followed the vehicle as it turned onto South 10th Street, and when the driver turned off all of the lights before turning onto Hamilton Street.
The driver sped off before parking in the 1200 block of South 11th Street.
The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the backyard of a nearby home, ignoring officers’ orders to stop.
Backup arrived to conduct a high-risk traffic stop, and the three other individuals in the vehicle exited under the officers’ directions.
A smell of intoxicants was noted on the three individuals, all of whom identified the 24-year-old male driver.
K9 Riley was called to the scene to help find the fleeing driver, who was located behind a garage in the 1300 block of South 10th Street.
The driver was arrested on charges of Fleeing an Officer and eight counts of Felony Bail Jumping, while two of the passengers were hit with bail jumping charges.
