The Manitowoc Public School District’s interim superintendent will become the next full time superintendent.
A press release from the school district says that Lee Thennes has been selected to serve after being appointed to the interim position last September.
He was one of three finalists who were interviewed last Friday with board members and two panels composed of parents, staff, students, and community members.
Thennes called the selection an incredible honor, saying, “I am deeply committed to our students, staff, families, and community, and look forward to building on the district’s strengths while working together to create even greater opportunities for every learner.”
School Board President Chris Able says the board looks forward to working with Thennes to improve the quality and variety of education opportunities.
Thennes earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science Education and History Education from Northern Michigan University in 2001.
He taught social studies for 10 years in the district while also serving as a Manitowoc alderman from 2005 to 2009.
Thennes moved to educational administration in 2011, taking a role as Associate Principal at Sheboygan North High School before returning to MPSD to be principal at Wilson Middle School and Lincoln High School.
He also served as the district’s Director of Federal and State Programs.
The board will finalize a contract with Thennes and plans to vote on his hiring at an April 29th meeting.
He will officially sign a contract with the district in July.
