The inmate charged with killing his cellmate at Green Bay Correctional is changing his plea.
Court records show that the lawyer for 25-year-old Jackson Vogel sent a letter saying he wants to withdraw the plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
WBAY reports that would allow Vogel to proceed to his jury trial, with the first day being on June 2nd.
Vogel is charged in the death of Micah Laureano, who was found in the cell the two were sharing last August.
Prosecutors say Vogel targeted Laureano due to his race and sexual orientation.
Vogel is in prison for an attempted homicide case in Manitowoc County where he attempted to stab a family member at a Two Rivers residence.
A lawsuit was also filed against two correctional officers at GBCI because of Laureano’s death.
