After previously being reported as passed, the Sheboygan Falls School District (SFSD) referendum has failed to secure enough votes.
The Sheboygan County Clerk Jon Dolson has confirmed that an error in vote collection and counting during Tuesday’s (April 1st) election is to blame for the $70 million referendum originally being reported to have passed.
However, after a correction, the referendum has failed just six months after a nearly $100 million referendum also failed.
The reasoning behind the error involves an area of the Village of Kohler that falls into the SFSD.
No residents live in this area, but the county’s election certification report states, “The statewide referendum results for the Village of Kohler were inadvertently duplicated into the SFSD referendum cells. The Village of Kohler cells should read zero.”
These unofficial results have been updated to show that 111 more district residents voted no rather than in favor, finishing with 2,604 no votes to 2,493 yes votes.
