The Wisconsin DATCP is reminding attendees going to the NFL Draft in Green Bay to be mindful of what they are spending their money on.
Scammers and identity thieves are hoping to steal private information during a big event like the draft and will use many methods to convince consumers to give up their info.
There could be surveys, prize giveaways, and online quizzes not affiliated with the Draft.
Although that might not seem like much, anything as simple as a birthday or contact information could cause someone to lose their personal data.
The Wisconsin DATCP recommends visitors to purchase items with a credit card because they already offer built-in protection against fraud to allow the user to dispute fraudulent charges.
They also urge card users to be vigilant because scammers can use what are known as “card skimmers” to record data while making a purchase.
Customers should check card readers to make sure that it doesn’t look misaligned, and that the keypad doesn’t feel flimsy.
