The man accused of setting fire to U.S. Representative Glenn Grothman’s office has returned to court.
19-year-old Caiden Stachowicz of Menasha was present in a Fond du Lac County courtroom yesterday (March 17th) for his arraignment as he has been charged with Arson to a Building Without the Owner’s Consent, Attempted Burglary to a Building or Dwelling, and Criminal Damage to Property.
At his arraignment, Stachowicz pled not guilty by way of mental defect to all charges he is facing.
Following his plea, Judge Tricia Walker ordered the 19-year-old to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if the not guilty due to mental defect pleas are concrete.
Stachowicz was arrested on January 19th by the Fond du Lac Police Department after they were called to the scene of a structure fire in the 500 block of North Peters Avenue, the location of an office space used by Rep. Grothman.
After his arrest, the 19-year-old admitted to starting the fire in response to the government’s short-lived ban on TikTok, a popular social media outlet.
Stachowicz will return to court upon the completion of his psychiatric evaluation.
