
A former leader of Manitowoc’s sister city has passed away.
The City of Kamogawa, Japan has reported the death of former mayor Yuki Katagiri on March 9th.
Katagiri was elected as Mayor in 2009, and served in the position through 2013.
He made a trip to Manitowoc in 2010 as a part of the 6th Citizens’ Wings of Friendship delegation and was a big supporter of the sister city relationship between Kamogawa and Manitowoc.
Tina Prigge, the President of the Manitowoc International Relations Association, said of Katagiri’s passing, “We will cherish the fond memories of the times we shared together on behalf of the sister-city friendship. We are grateful to former Mayor Katagiri for his public service and his support of our sister-city friendship, including his visit to Manitowoc.”
A private funeral service is scheduled for 11:30 Friday morning at the Daihonzan Kominato, Tanjoji-Temple.
