Prosecutors in Winnebago County have responded after a man charged with his parents’ murder wants to withdraw his plea.
WBAY reports that 27-year-old Erik Metzig claims he was sexually abused by his parents after he entered a no-contest plea in the murder of David and Jan Metzig.
Documents from prosecutors say that two inmates who are housed near Metzig believe the claims are “all garbage” and that the idea came from news coverage of the Menendez case on television.
The Menendez brothers were convicted of killing their parents in California but had claimed they were sexually abused.
The defense attorney has also withdrawn from the case, meaning Metzig will have to find a new council to represent him.
A motion hearing has been set for March 19th in a Winnebago County Courtroom.
