A defense attorney who’s now representing the woman who claimed she worships the “Saint of Death” believes she is competent to stand trial.
According to court records, a competency hearing for 48-year-old Blanca Perez-Hernandez started on Monday (March 10th) but was put on recess because of other matters.
Last month, a psychiatrist found that Perez-Hernandez was not competent to stand trial and that treatment would be best.
However, the 48-year-old defendant stated that she was competent.
During Monday’s hearing, prosecutors didn’t contest the findings in the report, while attorneys for Perez-Hernandez argued in her favor.
The competency hearing will continue next Tuesday (March 18th) in Branch 2 of Manitowoc County Court.
Perez-Hernandez is facing two charges of 1st-degree reckless injury after she allegedly slashed a person and almost stabbed another after she was found taking license plates off of cars in Manitowoc.
Manitowoc Police say she said that “Santa Muerte,” or the Saint of Death, gifted her all the cars in the area and the world.
