The Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association’s Pee Wee 4A state tournament kicks off at the Manitowoc County Ice Center tomorrow morning (March 8th).
The host Breakers will be taking on Viroqua at 8:00 a.m. in what is the first of an eight game day at the rink.
Tournament Director Emma Erickson is ready for a busy weekend which includes some prep work inside the arena tonight.
She explained, “We are cleaning. We are organizing. We are setting up so that when when these teams and their families come in right away, Saturday morning, everything is ready to go.”
Then, tomorrow morning, the curtain is drawn and the show begins.
Teams will show up, along with referees, all of whom need to have their locker rooms set up, including the girls.
“This is a coed sport…so we got to make sure our girls are taken care of,” Erickson noted. “Like, do they have a good locker room? They can feel like they’ve got a place. No one has to be forced into the same locker room. So, making sure everyone is comfortable and taken care of.”
Emma will not be doing it all by herself as “All the parents on the team are putting in these extra hours so that we can make sure we have a good tournament.”
Erickson tells us she will be the first person in the door each day, and the last to leave, but she said it is all for the kids.
“This is what they worked for, so let’s give them what they deserve.”
Each team is guaranteed three games, as there is, of course, the championship game, but also a consolation championship, a 7th place game, and a 3rd place game.
If the Breakers will face either Barron/Chetek or Marinette-Menomonie in the second round. If they win, the local squad will play at 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
If they lose, they will play at 2:00 p.m.
SeehaferNews.com will be on hand for each Breakers game to give you up-to-the-minute results of their push to a state title.
The full bracket can be found at WAHAHockey.com, along with the bracket for the Pee Wee B state tournament, where the Breakers are also represented.
