A young life was cut short Thursday night in Manitowoc County.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig tells SeehaferNews.com that his deputies responded to the 6500 block of Homestead Road in the Township of Manitowoc Rapids just after 11:30 p.m. on a report of a single-vehicle accident.
A witness told dispatch that the car was on fire.
The flames were extinguished by responding fire personnel, but the 21-year-old woman from rural Manitowoc died from her injuries.
The preliminary investigation shows the woman was traveling east on Homestead Road when, for an unknown reason, she left the roadway, entered the south ditch, and struck a tree.
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and the incident is still under active investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Branch, Whitelaw, and Manitowoc Fire Departments, the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office, and Hi-Way 42 Garage.
