A special annual campaign has been successful for our area YMCA.
Tuesday (March 4th) was a Day of Giving for the Manitowoc Two-Rivers YMCA.
Executive Director Julie Grossman explained on WOMT’s Just the Facts show that the Y relies on community donors to help support and subsidize scholarships and to help keep the Y staffed and open.
But this year, to make it interesting, Grossman said the Y did something fun.
Grossman explained, “We had Nicolet National Bank and Stecker Machine Company both step up and say we’ll match every dollar up to $3,000 total, so $1,500 per company, to the annual campaign.”
She says that with area companies stepping up, they rose close to $10,000. She says the money will do a lot.
“That is going to impact a whole lot of kids and families, and it’s just really lovely,” Grossman expressed.
There was also a lot of engagement with the Y’s staff, asking people and companies why they are donating to the campaign.
Grossman says there were tears, laughs, and happiness while people were giving and telling their stories.
She told one story of a woman who was a single mother and turned to the Y for help through their scholarship program.
“So she had that for her kids, and then she was able to also get in the Y and take care of herself while the kids were on child watch,” she described. “And she said is just made such a difference in that early stage of her parenting life that she’s so grateful that she’s at a point in her life that she’s able to give back.”
Grossman says the Y is still accepting donations for their annual campaign through the rest of the month.
