Morgan Geyser, the woman who stabbed her friend years ago in an attempt to summon the fictional Slenderman, will face a hearing today to determine whether she will be released from a mental institution.
At the age of 12, Geyser and another friend lured their 12-year-old classmate, Payton Leutner, into the woods in 2014 and stabbed her 19 times.
The case shocked the Waukesha community, but Leutner survived.
Now 22, Geyser has been under a 40-year commitment at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.
While Geyser has earned some support from the staff and hopes for a transfer to a transitional facility, a sealed petition is seeking to keep her at the institution.
