The Manitowoc Public School District is adding a new team with a veteran coach.
Manitowoc Lincoln High School is adding girls golf to its athletic offerings next fall with Boys Golf Coach Chris Grodek leading the squad.
He served with the boys’ varsity golf team for the past four years, following four years as an assistant and 10 years as the junior high golf coach.
He also led the 9th-grade boys’ basketball team for seven years.
Ten female golfers competed in Lincoln’s boys golf team last spring.
Grodek says, “With the help of some parents and female golfers participating on the boy’s team, I have successfully started a girls golf program and look forward to seeing their success in the WIAA season of fall of 2025.”
The coaching position is scheduled to be approved at this month’s March school board meeting. The board approved starting the girls’ golf program in November.
Like their other sports, the Shipbuilders girls’ golf team will compete in the FRCC with the likes of De Pere, Green Bay Preble, Pulaski, and Sheboygan North among other teams.
