The Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers meet The Kewaunee Storm in a WIAA Division Four girls’ basketball sectional semifinal Thursday night at Denmark High School.
The Lancers, with a record of 24 and 2, are co-champions of The Big East North Division with St. Mary Catholic.
They reached the sectionals with wins over Kohler and Brillion last weekend at Lancer Circle.
The Storm, with a record of 21 and 4, defeated Cedar Grove- Belgium and Valders to advance.
Speaking with Seehafernews.com, Lancers Head Coach Mike Behnke says he has all the respect in the world for The Storm.
“We know a lot about them. We’ve had some pretty good battles with them over the past few years. Their head coach, Lynn Geier, does great with those kids and their program.”
Geier led the Storm to another Packerland Conference championship with a record of 15 and 1.
Five-foot-four-inch Junior Guard Jadelynn Kroll is their leading scorer, averaging more than 19 points per game. She’s also their leading rebounder at nearly five-and-a-half boards per contest.
Behnke says that although Kroll is their leader, they have plenty of complementary players to go with her, which has led to the Storm’s success.
These two teams met back on December 7th in Manitowoc, a 58-48 Lancer win. They forced 29 Storm turnovers while Marissa Melhorn and G Ermis combined for 41 of the Lancers’ 58 points.
If The Lancers are to win this time around, Behnke says it’ll come down to executing the “finest of details.”
“It may come down to executing some of the finest details that can get us one or two more baskets.”Behnke adds—
“We’ll find out what our team is made of and what they’re willing to do to win a basketball game.”
