Public parks in the City of Plymouth are set to become more pet-friendly.
Plymouth’s Common Council has voted on and approved amendments that will now allow dogs and cats in city parks as long as they are on leashes.
Furry friends will now be allowed in cemeteries in the city as well but must remain leashed and on the walking paths.
However, service animals are exempt from staying within the cemetery walking paths.
Dogs will only be allowed to be unleashed within the fenced-in areas of one of the City’s designated dog parks.
With the change in city code, pet owners bringing their animals to public parks will also be required to clean up after them.
While changes have been made, pets are still prohibited from certain public areas in Plymouth, such as playgrounds, school grounds, or swimming areas.
