Wisconsin’s Sixth District Congressman says Democrats are taking a House Budget Resolution passed in the U.S. House of Representatives out of context.
Republican Glenn Grothman said on the U.S. House Floor that there are not a lot of details in the budget.
The Congressman explains, “The budget has a lot of top line numbers in which we try to keep tax cuts that went into effect eight years ago in effect because we need a strong economy with high employment.”
He continued saying there are no specific cuts in the budget resolution and claimed that it’s a problem for Democrats to be against any spending cut.
“Let me remind people, 26% of the current level spending for the current new year is borrowed,” he mentioned. “That should be of huge concern for everybody.”
Grothman calls the budget resolution a way to prevent taxes from going up by as much as 22% and prevent the record inflation levels from continuing.
He says the House and Senate will now work together to craft a bill to support veterans, maintain critical health care for those in need, and finally begin to get Washington’s out-of-control spending in check.
Democrats, including 2nd District Congressman Mark Pocan are calling out the resolution, saying, “My Republican colleagues must justify their votes to cut healthcare for up to a million Wisconsinites on Medicaid, take away food from hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin families on FoodShare, and drastically cut funds to public schools, all to pay for a $4.5 trillion tax cut for the wealthiest Americans.”
